Unshaven Hair Transplant – MDO Health Tourism

Unshaven Hair Transplant

Hair transplantation is possible without cutting your hair. With no-shave techniques, the transplant area is hidden within your existing hair; returning to social life is quick and unnoticeable. At MDO Health Tourism, planning is tailored to your hair direction and density; the goal is a natural-looking, balanced result.

This approach is ideal for patients with a busy work schedule, those in camera-ready environments, or those who value privacy. Suitability is determined by the physician based on the size of the bald area, donor density, and the number of grafts targeted.

Is Hair Transplantation Possible Without Shaving?

Yes. Hair can be transplanted without cutting it using DHI (pen technique) or “long hair FUE.” If necessary, small “windows” are opened in the donor area so that the grafts can be removed without being visible. Note: For very wide gaps, multiple sessions or partial shaving may be recommended.

Who is Shave-Free Hair Transplantation Suitable For?

  • Those with limited thinning at the front hairline/crown area
Those seeking privacy and a quick social return
  • Female and male patients with sufficient donor area density
  • Patients with realistic expectations who can follow care instructions

What Method Is Used in Hair Transplantation Without Shaving?

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation):

Grafts are placed using special implanters that open the channel at the same time. It is very suitable for shave-free application and densification; it facilitates giving a natural angle and direction to the front line.

Long Hair FUE:

Grafts are removed when the hair is long; transplantation is performed after the channels are opened. It is effective in dense area planning and for patients who want to model in advance.

What Are the Advantages of Hair Transplantation Without Shaving?

  • Low visibility process: The top layer of hair is preserved; the process is not noticeable from the outside.
  • Quick return to social life: Meetings, shoots, or your work pace are not interrupted.
  • Natural line and density: Thickening existing hair is easy, especially providing a natural transition at the front.
  • Suitable option for women/men: Planning can be done without shaving, especially for female patients.

What Are the Disadvantages of Hair Transplantation Without Shaving?

  • Session duration may be longer: Due to the detailed and meticulous work involved, the procedure may take longer compared to classic FUE.
  • Graft count may be limited: Partial shaving may be required to achieve the desired density in a single session for very large bald areas.
  • Cost difference: Fees may vary compared to classic transplantation due to team and time planning.
  • Technical precision: Working between the hairs requires experience; a specialized team is essential.

How is Hair Transplantation Done Without Shaving?

The goal of shave-free transplantation is to harvest grafts without compromising the external appearance and to place them in a manner consistent with the direction/depth of existing hair. DHI (pen technique) or long-hair FUE is usually preferred. A small “window” (2–4 cm) that is covered by the top hair can be opened in the donor area; this shave is not visible from the outside.

MDO Health's No-Shave Hair Transplant Advantages

  • Expert team in no-shave transplantation: Experienced surgical staff in no-shave DHI and long hair FUE; each graft is handled with maximum precision.
  • Personalized no-shave planning: Hairline, angle-direction, and target graft count are determined based on your baldness and donor density.
  • Privacy and low visibility: The procedure is undetectable from the outside thanks to a small “window” covered by the top hair in the donor area; quick return to social life.
  • Natural appearance (micro-dense front line): Single graft design for a natural front hairline; results that match the “Italian hairline” approach and leave no artificial impression.
  • Maximum aesthetic density, donor preservation: While targeting density, the donor area is managed sustainably; session planning is done when necessary.
  • VIP medical tourism package: Complete organization for international patients, including airport transfer, accommodation, and multilingual interpreter support.
  • International patient experience and follow-up: Multilingual coordination, written care plan, supportive applications such as PRP/mesotherapy, and online check-ups.

Note: Each patient is unique; the final plan and graft spacing are determined during the physician’s examination. Suitability for a shave-free procedure is evaluated based on the width of the opening and donor capacity.

Unshaven Hair Transplant FAQs

At MDO Health Tourism, we provide world-class medical treatments with expert doctors and accredited hospitals in Türkiye. Our mission is to combine high-quality healthcare with personalized travel services for a safe and comfortable patient experience.

1) Can hair transplantation be performed without shaving?
Yes. With the DHI (pen technique) or long-hair FUE method, transplantation can be done without cutting the hair short. In this technique, a small “window” is opened within the donor area, and grafts are harvested from there. Since the surrounding hair covers this area, it is not noticeable from the outside. In cases of very large bald areas, high graft requirements, or thin/weak donor hair, partial shaving of the donor area may be recommended to increase efficiency. In unshaven applications, the number of grafts planned per session may be limited depending on the size of the area and the surgical team’s evaluation, with the aim of maintaining a natural density.
2) When can I resume sexual activity after hair transplant?
During the first 7–10 days, grafts are still in the early healing phase. To avoid risks of sweating, friction, or trauma to the scalp, sexual activity should be avoided. From days 10–14, low-intensity activity without pressure on the head can be resumed, as long as friction is avoided. By the second to third week, most patients return to normal routines, but mechanical trauma such as bumping the head against objects or hair pulling should still be avoided. Maintaining hygiene is critical: use lukewarm showers, pat the scalp dry with a soft towel instead of rubbing, and avoid hot environments that increase sweating. Always follow your doctor’s personalized recommendations for the safest timeline.
3) When can I start exercising after hair transplant?
During the first week, only light walking is allowed; activities that increase heart rate and sweating should be avoided. In weeks 1–2, brisk walking or low-intensity stationary cycling may be permitted, but running, weightlifting, or high-intensity training should be avoided. From weeks 3–4, moderate cardio and machine-based weight exercises can usually be resumed, provided they do not strain or impact the scalp. Swimming, hammam, sauna, or steam baths are still not recommended at this stage. By weeks 6–8, most cardio and strength exercises can be gradually resumed with caution. Contact sports such as football, basketball, or boxing, as well as helmet-based activities, are generally safe after 2–3 months, since helmets or headgear can cause friction during early recovery. Each patient heals differently, so the final decision should always come from the treating physician.
4) Will there be scars in unshaven hair transplant, and how is discretion ensured?
In FUE harvesting, microscopic scars are left, but they remain hidden beneath the hair and are nearly invisible. In unshaven techniques, the donor area is covered by the upper layers of hair, ensuring maximum discretion. In the recipient area, redness and small scabs may appear during the first days, but with proper washing protocols, these usually fall off around day 10. For maintaining privacy, it is best to avoid wearing tight hats or beanies during the first 1–2 weeks, as they can cause friction. If sun protection is necessary, only soft hats or umbrellas recommended by the doctor should be used. Concealing products such as dark fibers or hair powders are not advised in the early weeks, as they may interfere with scabs and grafts.
5) When are results visible, and is “shock loss” normal?
In the first 1–3 days, redness and swelling are expected. By day 10, most scabs will have fallen off. Between weeks 3–6, it is common for the transplanted hairs to shed—a process known as “shock loss.” This is completely normal, as the follicles remain intact under the skin and will start producing new hair around months 3–4. Noticeable volume begins to appear between months 6–9, with the final natural look typically achieved by 12 months. In crown (vertex) areas, full maturation may take up to 12–18 months. The exact timeline depends on factors such as genetics, donor hair quality, aftercare, and any supportive treatments used.
