Hair Mesotherapy – MDO Health Tourism

Hair Mesotherapy

At MDO Health Tourism, Hair Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to nourish weakened hair follicles locally and strengthen the biological balance of the scalp. Thanks to the individually selected ingredients, it helps to increase hair thickness, slow down hair loss and improve overall hair quality. The procedure is quick, the recovery time is short, and you can return to your daily life swiftly.

This therapy is preferred as a supportive approach for individuals experiencing seasonal hair loss, stress/hectic pace, post-pregnancy, frequently chemically treated hair, or androgenetic tendencies. It is not a ‘miracle’ solution on its own; it provides more predictable and sustainable results when combined with methods such as PRP, medical lotion/drug treatments, and hair transplantation.

What is Hair Mesotherapy?

Hair mesotherapy is a procedure involving the injection of a specially prepared ‘cocktail’ in micro-doses into the scalp using very fine needles. This cocktail may contain one or more of the following, depending on the clinic’s protocol and the individual’s needs:

  • Vitamins (particularly B vitamins/biotin) and minerals (zinc, etc.)
  • Amino acids and peptides (building blocks that support keratin synthesis)
  • Coenzymes, antioxidants, and circulation-supporting components
  • Hyaluronic acid when needed (to support moisture balance)
  • In some protocols, supportive ingredients targeting sebum/dandruff balance and DHT effects

How does it work?

  • Increases microcirculation: Supports blood flow and oxygenation around the hair root.
  • Provides a nourishing environment: Locally supplies the vitamins, minerals and amino acids needed by the root.
  • Helps regulate the cycle: Supports the anagen (growth) phase in active but weakened follicles, contributing to thicker hair strands and increased perceived density.
  • Balances the scalp barrier: Plays a supportive role in issues such as oil balance, dryness and dandruff.

Application and Session Plan

  • Session duration: Typically 20–30 minutes, including preparation.
  • Protocol: In most cases, 4–8 sessions at 7–14 day intervals, followed by maintenance sessions every 1–3 months.
  • Comfort: Pain is minimised with topical anaesthetic cream.
  • Combination: PRP/mesotherapy can be applied sequentially or alternately to achieve synergy.

Who is it suitable for?

  • Those experiencing early to mid-stage thinning
  • Seasonal/reactive shedding, stress, weakened hair following intensive chemical treatments
  • Those seeking pre-transplant preparation and post-transplant quality and retention support

Expectations and Outcomes

  • A slowdown in hair loss may be observed within 4–8 weeks, with an increase in thickness/shine visible within 2–3 months.
  • It does not create new follicles in areas that are completely open, shiny, and have not produced hair for a long time; in such cases, hair transplantation is more suitable.
  • The gains achieved through regular sessions and a maintenance routine can be sustained with maintenance sessions.

What are the Advantages of Hair Mesotherapy?

Hair mesotherapy helps to increase the thickness, shine and overall quality of the hair by nourishing weakened follicles in a targeted manner. As it is administered in micro-doses, the procedure time is short, recovery is rapid, and return to daily life is almost immediate. Since its content can be customised (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, peptides, etc.), it offers a tailored approach for different conditions such as seasonal shedding, stress-induced thinning, or damage following chemical treatments.

Additionally, when used in conjunction with mesotherapy, PRP, and topical/medication treatments, it creates synergy; it is a complementary tool for strengthening the groundwork before hair transplantation or supporting quality and retention after transplantation. The risk of allergy is low (ingredients are selected for use), and the cost/comfort balance provides a significant advantage in long-term care plans.

What is the Difference Between Hair Mesotherapy and Hair Transplantation?

Hair mesotherapy is a non-surgical procedure; it aims to thicken the hair shaft and slow down hair loss by nourishing existing but weakened roots and increasing microcirculation. It does not create new follicles; therefore, it does not provide coverage on completely bald, shiny areas on its own. The best candidates are individuals experiencing early to mid-stage thinning and who wish to improve hair quality.

Hair transplantation, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure; it provides new density and coverage by transplanting permanent follicles taken from the back of the head to balding areas. Transplantation is the only method that can permanently fill empty areas; however, it is a different process from mesotherapy in terms of planning, recovery, and budget.

In short, mesotherapy is a “strengthening treatment for existing hair,” while hair transplantation is a “permanent solution for filling in missing areas”; in many patients, the most natural and sustainable results are achieved when both methods are used together in the correct order.

What Should You Pay Attention to After Hair Mesotherapy?

  • Do not wash your hair for the first 12–24 hours; avoid saunas/steam rooms, pools, and steamy environments for 48–72 hours.
  • We do not recommend alcohol or intense exercise on the same day; sweating and friction can increase redness.
  • Protect yourself from the sun: Avoid direct sunlight for the first 3–5 days; use high SPF outdoors.
  • Contact and cosmetics: Do not scratch/rub the area; do not use products such as hair spray, wax, dry shampoo for 24–48 hours. Wait for the period recommended by your doctor (usually 24–48 hours) before returning to topical treatments such as minoxidil.
  • Washing: Use lukewarm water and gentle movements for the first wash; do not use your fingernails.
Accessories: Do not wear tight hats/caps/headgear or helmets for the first 24–48 hours.
  • Sleep hygiene: Use a clean pillowcase; avoid sleeping on your stomach or in positions that cause excessive friction.
  • Medications: If you are taking blood thinners/NSAIDs, be sure to inform the clinic; if you need pain relief, use what your doctor recommends.
  • When to notify? Contact your clinic if you experience severe pain, increasing redness/heat, discharge, widespread rash, or fever.
Is Hair Mesotherapy Painful?

It is generally tolerated with minimal discomfort. Thanks to the fine needles and topical anesthetic cream, the sensation felt by most people is a stinging/tingling sensation (usually a pain level of 2–4/10). Sensitivity/redness lasting a few hours to 1 day after application is normal and resolves on its own. If necessary, mild pain relievers recommended by your doctor may be used; on the first day, a cool environment, low exertion, and avoiding the sun will increase comfort.

Hair Mesotherapy FAQs

At MDO Health Tourism, we provide world-class medical treatments with expert doctors and accredited hospitals in Türkiye. Our mission is to combine high-quality healthcare with personalized travel services for a safe and comfortable patient experience.

1) How many sessions are needed, and when are the results visible?
Generally, 4–8 sessions are performed every 7–14 days, followed by maintenance sessions every 1–3 months. Reduction in hair shedding is usually noticed within 4–8 weeks, while improvements in hair thickness and shine become visible within 2–3 months. Completing the full protocol is essential for stable results.
2) Does it work on completely bald areas?
Mesotherapy does not create new follicles; it nourishes and revitalizes existing but weakened roots. Therefore, it is effective in thinning areas but cannot restore areas that have been bald and inactive for a long time. For such cases, hair transplantation should be considered.
3) What are the side effects, and who is not suitable?
The most common side effects are temporary redness, sensitivity, mild swelling/bruising, and pinpoint scabbing, which usually subside within 1–3 days. It should be postponed in individuals with active scalp infections/dermatitis, uncontrolled diabetes, significant clotting disorders, or a strong tendency to form keloids, as well as during pregnancy or breastfeeding (depending on the clinical approach). Patients using anticoagulants/blood thinners must consult their physician before treatment.
4) Can it be combined with PRP or medications (minoxidil/finasteride)?
Yes. Mesotherapy can be combined with PRP in sequential or alternating sessions for a synergistic effect. When used alongside topical or oral treatments, results become more predictable. The sequence and frequency of combinations are personalized based on medical evaluation and the stage of hair loss.
5) Are the results permanent, and how long do they last?
The improvements can be maintained long-term with maintenance sessions and proper home care (appropriate shampoo/lotions, stress and nutrition management). Since genetic hair loss is a dynamic process, results may gradually diminish if maintenance is discontinued. Therefore, adhering to the periodic program recommended by your clinic is critical for sustainability.
